Unique Program Approach

Providing You With The Funding You Need To Succeed

Master's thesis students will receive $17,300 per year and Doctoral students will receive $21,000 per year. You will receive the scholarship for a maximum of:

  • nine semesters if you are a Doctoral student
  • six semesters if you are a thesis Master's student

Consideration will be given to requests for HQP scholarships that cover less than the above funding totals.  Scholarship money will be given to you directly through your Department's accounting system. You are not eligible for the HQP scholarship if you are also receiving another major student award (such as NSERC, OGS, SSHRD, CIHR).

Providing In-Class Training In Business, Agriculture and Commercialization

Along with your regular courses in research methods and subjects related to your degree, you will also take a new course developed specifically for HQP students. The course "The Integration of Science and Business in Agri-Food Systems" will teach you about business, commercialization and societal considerations related to the agri-food system in Ontario. You will earn 1.0 credits when you successfully complete this course.

Providing Meaningful Employment Experience During Your Studies

You will also take the opportunity to complete a work semester during your studies. Some students arrange their own placement, often through discussions with their faculty advisor, and others use this website to help find a good fit. You can post information on our 'Students Looking For Work Term' section of the website to tell potential employers about yourself and your research.

Preparing You For Your Next Challenge: Positively Contributing To The Agri-Food Sector!

The Agri-Food systems course and work semester will help prepare you for your career when you finish your studies. The HQP Scholarship program is designed to help you become 'market-ready' and give you an edge above the rest of the competition.
