Highly Qualified Personnel Scholarship Program

The OMAFRA-U of G Partnership is committed to garnering social, economic, environmental and public health benefits through its research and programs. Through the renewed Partnership, HQP scholarships are awarded to support future generations of researchers, policy-makers and innovators in agri-food. The program provides $2.5 million over five years for graduate scholarships in OMAFRA-U of G research theme and priority areas. 

HQP Student Funding   

Master's thesis students receive $17,300 per year and Doctoral students receive $21,000 per year. Students will receive the scholarship for a maximum of:

  • nine semesters if you are a Doctoral student
  • six semesters if you are a thesis Master's student

In-Class Training In Business, Agriculture and Commercialization

Along with your regular courses in research methods and subjects related to their degree, students will also take a new course developed specifically for HQP students. The course "The Integration of Science and Business in Agri-Food Systems" will teach students about business, commercialization and societal interactions with the agri-food system. 

Meaningful Employment Experience During Graduate Work

Graduate students will also complete a work semester during their studies. Some students arrange their own placement and others use this website to help find a good fit with a government, industry or community partner
